This is inspired by the perfect drummer/bass player topic. My friends and i always like to play with the idea of taking bands and replacing members with the 'perfect member' to just push the band over the top and into insanity.
Some of the one's we've come up with are:
Bela Fleck, but with Trilok on drums.
Return to Forever with Gadd... which actually did happen but the material was never released [img]frown.gif[/img]
Acoustic band with Vinnie... then we heard that it DID happen!
Dennis with Dave Matthews... maybe just cause he looks like Carter!
Mahavishnu with Vinnie...
Anthony Jackson with Mahavishnu or RTF.
Eric Gravatt getting to play with Miles in place of Tony for a gig...

Clint, that interview you're looking for is Vinnie's first or second MD cover. He told the magazine that he once got a call from Jeff Beck to do a tour because Simon Phillips was overbooked. Vinnie said he couldn't believe his good fortune and he walked around for weeks not daring to tell a soul for fear of jinxing everything. But Pete Townsend or somebody bailed and Simon was once again free to resume his chair in Beck's band.
